Spring Cleaning Elmlea Farm Store

Spring Cleaning has started in the store!

I am hopeful to have the store back to it's regular hours soon!  With the constant snow we have been closed except for anyone who has made an appointment to drop by.   The number to reach us is
705-778-2070.

While getting things ready I thought I would show case something I didn't make along with some of my yarns .  We do care a few items by other local artisans.  Here are a few silk scarves we have, they come in two lengths.  Aren't the colours beautiful?
Silk Scarves

While admiring these scarves, I realized I have yarns that a very similar!  We tend to think of knitting as a "winter" hobby, but don't forget how often we grab for a light sweater or shawl in the spring and summer!  These yarns and colours would make lovely shawls or sweaters.  And remember you can mix your yarn, not only mixing Alpaca with a blend but also mix your colours for more versatility. A solid with just a bit of colour spices everything up, without going over board.

From Raw Fleece to Roving

Kinda a blah day so far...going to be mild but wet for the next few days and then back to brrrrr?  Oh well April...that's what the animals and I are hoping for!  Consistent warmer weather in April!  It was a calm weekend... no babies...we are waiting on Jill.
It's a good week to wash fleece and process it.  Currently working on Inky's fleece, turning it into roving. It will make lovely socks or mitts or hat!

I have attached a few pictures, first starting with Inky himself after he was sheered,

Inky is the black sheep
then the raw fleece, which has been hand washed, hand picked and then put through the "picker" and then carted and made into roving. The roving is then spun into yarn....that's the next step...or if you know how to spin then you buy the roving and spin it.

The farm store is open by appointment, please feel free to drop us a note or call 705-778-2070.  Farm fresh are available as well as some assorted local meets.

Baa Baa Black Sheep

Will this cold never end?
A little late with the blog this week...not internet problems, but a new addition!  Liz and Inky have a boy!  Yes,  a new little Olde English Babydoll Southdown is born,  March 1, 2014.  I guess March came in like a lamb?  Okay maybe not...maybe his name should be Leo!  Both Mom and baby are doing very well.  If you are interested in a registered black lamb...give us a call!
705-778-2070.  We only have the one lamb this time round.  He is so cute bouncing around!  And he goes to the gate to meet the other goats and sheep who stick their heads down to say "Hi!"  It is very cute to see the wee bucklings trying to catch his attention.
