Meet Jack, our Nigerian Dwarf Buck.
Jack was born March 13, 2011. He has been dehorned and is an excellent proven sire, producing 3 kids from two females.
Jack is a very friendly boy. This is a common trait in Nigerians as they are both friendly and easily trained.
We are looking to sell Jack at this time as we have a few too many males on the farm. We are asking $ 100.00.
Currently his 3 babies can be seen at the farm. When bred to another black Nigerian the offspring Widget is full black no brown markings. When bred to a Lucy our white Pygora he produced the recent babies that have beautiful markings on a white and creme background.
If you have questions or wish to see Jack please call 705-778-2070

Start Your Own Hobby Farm!
So, ever think of starting your own hobby farm? Perhaps having an Alpaca or 5. Maybe a few sheep or better yet a few goats! Guess what? Elmlea farms can help!
We have a great Quality Alpaca Starter Package right now, you get 5 animals...1 stud male, 1 companion animal and 3 females of your choice for $ 2500.00! These are Huacaya Alpacas, with 22-27 micron fleece. We will include transportation up to 200 km (further distance requires negotiation) and 1 year of support. Alpacas are a rather low maintenance animals, you do need to provide shelter, maintain their hooves and teeth, and they need to be sheared once year.
We do have goats for sale, 2 kids both boys as mentioned before they are pygora/nigerian dwarf mix in a white and carmel colour. There are lovely Cashgora wethers for sale, Max(75% Angora, 25% Cashmere) being one and Sam the other( 50% Angora and 50% Cahmere), that is just to name a few. There are other mixes as well.
And we are taking reservations on our registered Olde English Babydoll Southdowns. Both Liz(white) and Pearl(black) have been bred to Inkspot(black). We sell females for $ 800, and males for $600. We are going to keep the price the same whether the baby is black or white and normally babies that are black are sold at a higher price! Babydolls are extremely friendly and pet like. They are smaller than normal sized sheep and are great grazers!

Elmlea Farm Store now Accepting Visa and Mastercard
EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT!!!!!
ELMLEA FARM STORE NOW ACCEPTING
VISA AND MASTERCARD!!!!
We are very excited to be offering our shoppers yet another way to purchase from us. You can shop the Etsy store, or come in person to the store or visit us at one of our shows and we are now able to accept Visa and MasterCard. It has been requested by our customers and now you have it as an option!
Speaking of shows the next one is in Maynooth on February 15, 2014. That's a Saturday and will be held from 10-4 pm in the town library. I will have a selection of hand made hats, scarves, shawls, I am busying making new products as we speak! Also there are Alpaca insoles and socks in varying styles. There will be some yarns produced from scratch right down to the hand spinning, as well as our large selection of various fibre yarns! And don't forget the barn boards...something nice to add to that room you have renovated over January!
Now back to our fibre goat lesson. Today I have a picture of one of girls, Talli. She is 100% Angora. You have seen Omar, he is grey. And by now you all know that an Angora goat yields Mohair fibre.
Talli was bred to Omar this fall and we have fingers crossed for babies, which will be 100% Angora. Next week I will post information and pictures of cross fibre goats, such as Pygora and Cashgora.
As always the store is open in the winter months by chance or by appointment. But in this weather better to call ahead at 705-778-2070. There is a selection of various fibre products but we also have our local meats, poultry and of course farm fresh eggs!

Cashmere Buck
Bert 2011 |
He is a friendly boy with an impressive horns.
Cashmere is a luxurious, durable fibre. That offers great insulation, warm in Winter cool in Spring. Cashmere fibre needs to be combed, it is not sheared as with other animals.
When cashmere is used for clothing it gets softer with age. It rarely pills. Cashmere is often blended with other fibre such as silk and cotton.
Bert has been bred with our Angora females to produce Cashgora offspring. This gives and even softer fibre.

Fibre Goats
DID YOU KNOW???
WE HAVE FIBRE GOATS!!!
Yes we have Alpacas which are recognized world wide for the soft fibre, and you know about Patrick 1 of our 4 Olde English Babydoll Southdowns, which provide us wool, but we also have a few different kinds of goats which also bare fibre for us!
We have 100% Angora and 100% Cashmere goats, along with a mix of the two! Remember an angora sweater means it came from an Angora rabbit, the only animal that keeps the Angora name. If it an "Angora" sweater from a goat it would be called a Mohair sweater! Patrick might have given this lesson awhile back!
We have bred 2 of our girls a 100% Angora (Talli) and our Pygmy(Jill) to our 100% Angora male, Omar. What that would give us is 100% Angora from Talli/Omar and a 50/50 blend with Jill and Omar. Good Pygora is hard to find so we are taking a chance, but we are hoping it is worth it. Lucy is a Pygora goat and she had been bred to 100% Angora male producing offspring with beautiful fibre, and they are pretty cute to boot! If the girls are pregnant we would hope for kids in the early Spring.
Mohair fibre is very shiny, warm and strong with lots of krimp. Mohair is known as an exotic fibre.
In the next few weeks we will post different pictures of our goats and their description. Here is Omar, the grey Angora male and Talli the 100% registered Angora female.
If you are interested in buying Mohair yarn or product or even an animal gives us a call or email. Oh and we hope to have lambs in the spring too....but that is for another day!

Happy New Year 2014
Happy New Year Everyone!
We wish you all a happy, healthy, prosperous 2014.
Today I just wanted to let you know that Miss Lucy gave birth to 2 babies on December 31, 2013. Mom and babies are doing well. Lucy is a great Mom and today the babies were jumping and playing!
I am attaching 2 pictures, they are not the best as Lucy keeps getting in the way of the camera! She is worse than Patrick when it comes to wanting her picture taken!
I will post about our schedule of shows and more next week. Once again, thank you for your support through 2013! See you soon and bring a friend!
